Twelve South Compass iPad Stand Review

In this video I continue my search for the best iPad stand and I think I may have found it. The compass stand is a powdercoated steel easle stand that folds into a compact size for easy carrying. The stand has one viewing angle and one working or typing angle.

Pros
The best part about this stand is its size. The stand includes a nice carrying case made of a neoprene like material. The fully compacted size is roughly two inches by 6 inches and easily fits into your bag. The construction and design is top notch as with other Twelve South products with only a few small issues that I will discuss in a moment. The final positive for me would be the weight of the device. Many people that I have discussesed this stand with ahve wanted it to be made out of aluminum rather than steel. I actually prefer the heft of the accessory because I feel that it make the stand feel more solid and gives it more stability while in use.

Cons
I have two minor issues with the Compass iPad stand. First, the supports that hold the iPad can potentially interfere when the stand is in it’s typing position. Second, the stand can become unstable if the iPad is touched frequently while in the upright position. This never was an issue for me because I only viewed the iPad in this position and interacted with it when holding it.

Final Thoughts
This is an excellent accessory for your iPad if you want to use your iPad naked and have a portable stand. I still prefer my book arc for iPad as my permanent stand but the compass is great mobile companion.
