Google + -Me

Ben Brooks via Brooks Review

As the title states, I won’t be joining Google’s new social network any time soon. I wasn’t even going to post about it, until I started to get people asking me about it. I have two problems with Google +:

  1. It’s made by Google.
  2. I don’t trust Google.

I am usually very critical of google products but From what I have seen so far I like Google +. Even though I typically don’t trust Google with my social data, I don’t know if I trust Facebook or Twitter that much either. The main reason I am excited about Google + is how much better the UI/UX looks compared to Google’s other offerings. It looks beautiful compared to most other web services and is easily the best looking Google product ever.

My main issue/fear about google + is the friend issues. It won’t be useful if none of my friends use the service and only time will tell if it will gain traction.

Twitter Announces Picture and Video Service

Jack Dorsey via Twitter

Over the next several weeks, we'll be releasing a feature to upload a photo and attach it to your Tweet right from Twitter.com. And of course, you'll soon be able to easily do this from all of our official mobile apps. A special thanks to our partner Photobucket for hosting these photos behind the scenes.

Will twitter allow third party apps like instagram upload pictures to their service? More importantly will third party twitter clients be allows to utilize the service? I have to say thought that the timing of this announcement, proposed "next several weeks" to roll the service to users, and the predominance of Apple hardware in the promo video make me think their might be something too that iOS 5 Twitter integration rumor.

Twitter for iOS updated to included push notifications

In this video I demonstrate the iPad version of the official twitter application for iOS. Yesterday version 2.3.1 of the Twitter app was released into the iTunes app store that included a number of bug fixes, slight user interface tweaks, and push notifications for @replys and messages. You can grab the application from the app store here.

Boxcar has been the dominate app in the twitter push notification space for a while. Boxcar recently received a major update that added many new features such as notifications when you receive a new follower, your tweet is re-tweeted, your tweet is starred, or you are added to a list. I personally have turned off boxcar notifications for @replys and messages and plan on relying on the official push notifications which have already been more consistent. I have however, left boxcar installed on my iPhone and iPad for the additional push notifications giving me the best of both worlds. Let me know in the comments what your favorite way to receive twitter notifications is?
