Documents in the Cloud in Mountain Lion

Alex Layne via theAppleBlog

In the Versions drop-down menu, there's a new "Move To" option, so you can move the current file around on your Mac, or to iCloud.

I am still curious about the behavior of iCloud documents in the cloud in Mountain Lion. If I add a text edit document to iCloud what iOS app can open it? Or if I add a PDF document to iCloud in preview can I open it in PDFpen. I still think Apple should change iCloud to silo documents based on file type rather than application. This would allow any iOS or Mac app that can handle a PDF file to open one stored in iCloud. Right now a PDF in PDFpen is associated only with PDFpen and not with other apps that can handle PDFs.

Mountain Lion is not more like iOS

Jim Dalrymple at The Loop

If Apple were trying to make Mountain Lion more like iOS we would be touching the screen of our computers to interact with out apps instead of using the keyboard and mouse.

I think commenter Moeskido said it best

Those claims allow easy comparisons with Metro and Windows 8, without having to examine the huge philosophical differences between “make improvements specific to the platform” and “dump everything together in a continuing attempt to appease conservative IT people.”
