The iPhone 4S is a "disappointment"

MG Siegler via parislemon

As for the early projections of 34 million iPhones sold - which again, some people thought were crazy - also low. Try 37 million.

There are so many articles that deserve to be made fun of, but I couldn’t just pick one.

iOS is the best selling mobile OS on Verizon

So not only is the iPhone the best selling phone on Verizon1, iOS is the best selling mobile operating system on what most believe to be the dominate Android carrier. So the old argument that lower sales for multiple different Android phones still would cumulatively outsell the iPhone is wrong.

1. and most likely the best selling phone on all carriers it is sold on

Download files from Safari on your iPhone

In this video I detail the process of downloading a Zip file of iPhone wallpapers, an image file from Google images, and an MP3 file from soundcloud all via the built in Apple provided Safari web browser. Once downloaded these files can be opened in many apps including Dropbox, GoodReader, or Camera+. Check out Camera , Dropbox, and GoodReader on the App Store.

Review: Bricson Colorshield for iPhone 4/4S

In this video I take a look at the Colorshield by Bricson for your iPhone 4 or 4S. This is, as the name suggests, a colored screen shield for your iPhone that not only protects it from scratches and minimizes the effect of fingerprints and glare on your screen but it can change the color of your iPhone. Buy your own pink, green, or white Colorshield from Amazon or visit Bricson for more information. Watch the video for details on how to win your own Colorshield.

App of the Week: HappyShutter

I am going to start a new weekly post series called, the app of the week. This post will highlight a great App (new or old) for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, or the web that I believe is due some attention.

This weeks app is called HappyShutter by developer ThirdSight. This application is yet another camera app for iOS but this one stand apart from the rest. The app uses a new technology to detect when all of the subjects of your photo are smiling. Once everyone is smiling the picture is taken and saved directly to your devices camera roll. In my testing this app has worked very well it has even been able to differentiate a smirk or slight grin from a full smile. This app is currently at an introductory price of $0.99 and available in the AppStore.

The Galaxy Nexus can’t replace my iPhone 4S

Donny Benfield via The Gadget Gurus

Ice Cream Sandwich is a really, really, nice update for Android. Love or hate the looks of it, Google has really pushed forward with the user interface on the platform.

Let’s hit on the 3rd party apps. Android is no where close at all, to having the quality 3rd party apps that iOS has.

This is a great overview of the device and lines up with my opinions after playing with the Galaxy Nexus for only a few minutes.

  • ICS is a huge improvement and really is pleasant to use even with some odd UI inconsistencies.
  • AMOLED is sub par when compared to the Retina Display or any high end IPS display.
  • The phone is too large to use comfortably with one hand.
  • 3rd party apps on Android suck.

I still contend this phone is like a Windows 7 ultrabook being compared to a MacBook air.

I really think anyone that is looking for a simple case for their iPhone this Christmas season should give this case a good look. Buy yourself one on Amazon in one of the many available colors.

Omnifocus and Siri

Omnifocus for iPhone

So you can now add actions, including location based actions, to Omnifocus with Siri. It works like a dream too. Kudos to the Omni group for making an awesome app even better.

The Power of the iPhone

I had a thought today during my lunch break that I couldn't fit into a tweet. Two coworkers just bought their first iPhone, the iPhone 4S on sprint. Both of them over the last few years have asked many times when the iPhone would finally be on sprint so when it was announced they jumped on the opportunity to buy one. Both previously had Android phones because that was the best available on the carrier they wanted to use until now. What is interesting to me is not that they moved from an android device to an iPhone, but how much influence using the iPhone had on them.

From 2007 to early this year AT&T was their only choice and they didn't want to go through the trouble or expense of switching carriers. The addition of Verizon this February also had no impact on their decision. They routinely quipped how they would deal with an inferior device to keep their cheaper monthly bill.

After less than a week with the phone both longtime sprint customers returned their iPhone 4Ss to sprint and canceled their contract to move to AT&T. The slower data performance on the Sprint network never bothered them on their Android smart phones but, in only a week the same network impacted their usage of the iPhone so much that made a decision they refused to do for two or three years. That's the power of the iPhone.

Ben Brooks via The Brooks Review

This is nearly identical to the post I was writing, I even commented on the new iPhone 4S vibration.
