Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover Review


In this video I go over the main reasons I believe that Apple's Smart Cover for the iPad 2 is a great accessory, but not a case. Read on after the break for all of my opinions.

My main objection with most of the smart cover reviews I read were that the reviewer was treating it as a case rather than a stand. While it might make a good case for some users most will want more protection than the smart cover offers. In my opinion, the smart cover should be compared to stands like the Twelve South Compass or the Griffin A-Frame rather than a full case. Both of these bulkier stands are around the same cost as a polyurethane smart cover but they require you to carry another accessory with you and don't perform as well as a stand. When you accurately compare the smart cover to the group of products it competes against it seems like a much better deal to me.

well written. I completely agree. The cover is not to be considered a case, but viewed more as a stand. I love the design, but for the price? They could have added leather, but I wanted something with more all inclusive protection. After some internet surfing, I sorted out a few brands that I would bet my iPad2 on. While Otterbox looked rugged, it wasn’t leather and it didn’t have the magnetic feature. The Belkin looked clean and sleek, but didn’t have complete enclosed protection. I settled for Mivizu. Their Nouveau Euro Chic (Mivizu Sense) design laced with Italian leather, and magnetic function, is just what I wanted. I checked their price at $39.95, http://www.mivizu.com/ against Apple’s $69.99 and I just couldn’t hold myself from ordering the pink folio. Mivizu even has a $10.00 discount coupon code, BAFIPAD2 that even throws in free shipping. Those looking for protection, should look elsewhere. The cover is just NOT that.

I agree with the last commenter, for the same price the Mivizu is the way to go. Too bad it is out of stock right now. Wait for the iPad and wait for the case.
