Posted by Jordan Patterson in Tutorial, Walkthrough on April 23rd, 2009
In this video I show how to set up Facebook to auto update your status via your Twitter updates. Now this may seem pointless but the application I show called selectivetwitter allows only tweets with the hash-tag #fb to appear as Facebook statuses.

My take on data backup
Posted by Jordan Patterson in Review on April 14th, 2009
In this video I discus my solution for backing up my data. I have tried several online solutions, and have settled on using Time Machine onto a 1.5 TB Segate HD. This works the best for me and I can report that I have had no issues with that HD due to the upgraded firmware now shipping on the drives.

Bluebird, a free Twitter client that runs native on OSX
Posted by Jordan Patterson in Walkthrough on April 9th, 2009
In this video I review and preview another Twitter client, Bluebird. I have been searching for the best Twitter client for my needs. I liked some of the features of TweetDeck but the memory usage and the fact that its an Adobe Air client turned me away. I then attempted DestroyTwitter and while it had much better memory management than TweetDeck it still relied on the Adobe Air back end, I really wanted something native to OSX. Then I switched to eventbox, this worked great until I discovered that it had consumed 2GB of ram, which incidentally was worse than TweetDeck. Hopefully I have finnaly arrived at my client of choice, but only time will tell. Enjoy the video and please share your options and your client of choice. Jordan- The Cheap Geek

Displaying more info below desktop icons
Posted by Jordan Patterson in Tutorial on April 4th, 2009
I received a question on twitter about how I was displaying additional information under my desktop icons in OS X Leopard. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to make a quick tutorial. This is very simple first, right click or option click on the desktop and select show viewing options. In the view options menu simply check the radio button for show item preview. This will add information such as total drive size, remaining drive space, image resolution, and video length. You might have to tinker with your icon size, grid spacing, and text size in order for the additional info not to be cut off. Additionally in this menu you can toggle where the name and the additional info appears, wither below or to the right. Check out pictures after the bump. Thanks for reading – The Cheap Geek
