Creating dual resolution movie files in iTunes

HDThis is an update to my previous video on creating dual resolution video file in iTunes.  The method I detailed in that video worked very well with tv shows but had some issues when applied to movies.  Now that the iTunes store is selling HD movies I purchased one and examined the mp4 tags to see how to create my own HD-SD movie.  Continue reading the tutorial after the jump. Quick Update

Hey guys I just wanted to make a quick post letting you know what was up. I have had a long day starting at five AM, so no new videos tonight. Tomorrow I am going to shoot an Apple TV video detailing how to set it up with a standard definition TV that only has composite inputs. I am also going to post a follow up video to my Dual Resolution Video, this video will detail how this procedure should be done with movies, now that HD movies are available for purchase via the iTunes store.  I have purchased a movie and will examine it and post my findings in a video tomorrow as well.  Have a good night guys, see you tomorrow.

Creating dual resolution video files in iTunes

In this video tutorial I demonstrate how to create a dual resolution video file in iTunes.  This type of file is the same as an HD TV show downloaded from the iTunes store.  These files have a tag “HD-SD” meaning that one entry in iTunes references both a high definition file and a standard definition file.  Apple delivers their HD content this way so that the video file is viewable on all devices from an iPhone or video iPod to the Apple TV.  If only the HD file was included the iPhone would not be able to play the video file.  This video will show you how to recreate this behavior with your own video content. The terminal commands needed to install mp4V2 utilities and the correct download links are after the jump.

Changing Leopard system icons and dock

untitled Last night I decided that I should do a daily blog post with a quick tutorial or news story during my lunch break at work.  Well as 11:30 approached today I was wondering what topic I should cover, then I received a reply on twitter.  Neelshah asked where I got my hard drive icons and how I changed my dock in OS X leopard.  Well for starters I download 99% of all my GUI(graphical user interface) modifications from MacThemes2 , a great forum for  icons, wallpapers, and  themes for the Mac and iPhone.  My hard drive icons called UniDrives, named after the uni body Macbooks and Macbook Pros, were created by user shiizun on the forums.  Check below for a download link.  Ok well now that you have the best resource to get replacement icons and docks for your Mac, how do you change them?  I use an application by Panic software called CandyBar3 to change all my icons as well as my dock.  This application is $29 , but I do recommend this application because it incorporates a simple method of changing icons and the dock as well as great icon management.  There is however a free alternative for modifying the look and feel of your dock.  This application written by Ed Shiro called SuperDocker allows you to change the dock using images or icontainers (the proprietary file format for CandyBar).  I recommend you check these applications out and have fun with changing the look of your Mac desktop, its adds a lot of personality and its fun.  Please comment and subscribe, Thanks.

New iPod Shuffle

march2009ipodshuffle10

This morning Apple released a new iPod Shuffle in two variations.  Both are anodized aluminum, one clear or aluminum the other in black and ther are roughly half the size of the previous generation shuffle with a 4GB capacity.  Several new features have been incorporated into this new device such as play list navigation using text to speech prompting. Accompanying the text to speech integration is the removal of all controls from the device itself, and moving them to the headphones in a manner similar to the iPhone and in-ear headsets.  I feel that this is a good move for Apple, but many feel that forcing the use of their headphones is yet another proprietary move from Apple.  At a risk of sounding like a fan-boy, I think Apple sets the trends in the accessory and consumer electronics market.  Now that all iPods and the iPhone utilize the same headphone remote I feel that other portable music players will adopt similar features and headphone manufacturers will support them.  Follow the links below for more information on Apples new iPod shuffle.
